Lessons From The Mat

For the year 2021, I decided to begin a new goal, which would lead me on a new journey. I wanted to become yoga certified. I have always loved yoga. The pause and stillness. The sweat and challenge in certain poses. The energy felt from practicing with others in the room. But most of all what I loved, was the spiritual aspect. When I say spiritual, I am not referencing any specific religion or any specific belief. I am speaking about turning inward and diving deep within myself. Being emotionally aware and present. Waking up and celebrating my authentic self.

Due to COVID and the absolute busyness from being a mama, I am completing my certification online through My Vinyasa, which is a yoga studio in Austin, Texas. With two sweet babes, the process is taking me a little longer than normal. But the beauty of it is I can take however long I want.

Through my training, one quote keeps popping up and is really becoming the most important lesson from the program. Its more important than the poses or the breath count. Instead this lesson makes an impact on and off the mat.

"We are divine beings, having a human experience."

When you actually take a look at the word divine and its meaning, it can be summed up as "from or like God" and "excellent and delightful". We are all excellent, delightful and lovely beings from God, but we are in fact having a human experience. Our human experience will bring joys, heartache, confusion, pain, love and so many more emotions. We will struggle and have success, we will fall down and we will soar above. We will have moments of intense excitement, and moments of debilitating anxiety.

We are having a human experience.

We all are having this human experience, so this wide range of emotions, trials and tribulations are to be expected. But at times we think that we are the only ones that are truly struggling as humans. We look at ourselves and apologize for our uniqueness, assume its all our fault and take the blame. We think there is something wrong with us. But in fact my friends, we are all feeling that way. We are all having this human experience and struggling at times. When we can be honest with ourselves and realize that the struggle will happen, we can all embrace the suck and celebrate the beautiful together.

We are divine beings, having a human experience.

We are divine. We are beautifully made. We are excellent and delightful. There is in fact nothing wrong with us, because of who we come from - a divine being who is not having a human experience.

Let this serve as a reminder to you whether you are on the mat or not. Whether you are spiritual or not. Whether you struggle or not. Whether you worship God or a god or not.

You are innately good, worthy and divine.
